Final year students Cassie Allen, Jo Hopley, Elly Blease and Alice Whiston from our BA(Hons) Graphic Design course were invited by the Met Office to take part in ‘Design Storm’ at their Head Office in Exeter, joining a number of other students and staff from top design universities in the UK.
The day involved a series of talks in the morning from the Met Office Design Studio, agencies and designers, including Michael Robinson, Former Head of Graphics at The Guardian. The afternoon centred around a design challenge bringing together students and industry professionals to collaborate, create and innovate. Working augmented reality prototypes, presentations, sketches and visualisations were produced in preparation to be pitched to the room and a small panel of judges.
The winning ideas for both the main challenge and the symbols competition were all from Falmouth students and these will go on to form part of a social media campaign for the Met Office. We are hoping to be working more with the Met Office in the future, and were really grateful to Ross Middleham for inviting us to the event.
