Here’s a interesting opportunity for a PhD Studentship:
“Project in brief
Since its foundation in London in 1963, Icograda has been the professional world body for graphic design and visual communication. An international voluntary grouping of national associations with a strong educational remit, it promotes the role of graphic design in both society and commerce.
This project will study the first fifty years of Icograda in order to understand how a design organisation can orchestrate governance at a regional, national and international level.
The research will draw evidence from the council’s proceedings and minutes of Congresses held in the Design Archives.
One set of questions will be defined by the topics of the meetings and will assess these congresses as active agents for change in the world of graphic design and visual communication. A second set of questions seeks to address the changing geography of the council’s influence. The project will assess the changing meaning of internationalisation and offer a corrective to the received view that graphic design history remains Euro-centric in its scope.
