This year’s graphic design graduates have just finished their yearly exhibition in the heart of London at the D&AD New Blood event. D&AD needs no introduction as one of the creative industry’s leading global professional organisations and education charities; to win any accolade from them is a real honour.
In the run up to the awards, through entering the organisation’s yearly competition, graduates from the course had a record 3 nominations. Sarah Weigold in the WPP brief, Hamish Gardner in the Air BnB brief and Amy Tyler in the John Lewis brief. On awards night these students came away with coveted D&AD student pencil awards, which is an incredible achievement for them and our course.
Prior to the awards evening, the course exhibition stand attracted much interest from industry and judges who also awarded additional recognition for creative excellence and achievement, with a best in show ‘top dog’ award and a further 7 ‘top gun’ award winner accolades.
Alongside this great D&AD achievement, we were also able to showcase other outstanding winning student work from competitions this year, including for the RSA, ISTD, Penguin, YCN and a number of design studio set briefs. Additionally, all students on the course had their digital portfolios at the event, which provided great opportunity for showcasing work.
Most importantly, D&AD forms a great launch pad for our graduate’s careers, with many in the time of the show alone, gaining work placements, jobs and a chance to meet and network with some of the country’s leading design and advertising figures and businesses.
Overall it is an inspiring event for our students and is just one of the many points of connection we have with industry who also come down to Falmouth throughout the course to give lectures and set briefs; keeping students and the course in touch with the very highest level of creative achievement and inspiration.
