Future Creative Stars

Congratulations to advertising students Arif Abdillah and Roan Laenen who has been short-listed for a ‘Future Lions’ award. This is a tremendous achievement as they were in competition with students from all over the world. Fingers crossed they win it, they’ll be in huge demand if they do.

Advertising Graduates Win Gold at Cannes Lions

Two recent graduates from MA Creative Advertising have together won four coveted awards at the Cannes Lions, the international festival of creativity this year.

2010 graduates Felipe Guimaraes and Lambros Charalambous, working for ad agency Bartle Bogle Hegarty, won two bronze, one silver and one gold Lions awards this June.

Each year around 11,000 members of the global creative communications industries come together to be inspired and educated at Cannes Lions. This year’s Festival took place from 16 – 22 June 2013 and saw the biggest names in design and advertising congregate to exhibit their works.

The pair landed jobs at BBH, largely considered one of the world’s best advertising agencies, following three-month placements, which followed directly from their degrees. They now work on a range of recognisable campaigns as a Copywriter and Art Director team.

This year saw the pair triumph at the festival, winning four coveted prizes out of 28 for the company. A Lion is widely regarded as the most sought-after award in the creative communications industry and a global benchmark of excellence.

Lambros and Felipe first won bronze as scriptwriters in the Radio category for a brief from Weetabix, which saw a mother and her child discuss imaginary adventures at breakfast. They also received a bronze for ‘Best Use of Games’ in Promo & Activation Lions for their campaign for Lynx titled Click Farm.

Their greatest success came from their contribution as Copywriter and Art Director on the Apollo Campaign for Lynx, which won both silver and gold, and was shortlisted three times. The campaign, which runs with the idea that astronauts always get the girls, will actually send 22 men and women into space on a specially designed Lynx two-seater space ship with the Axe Apollo Space Academy. Apollo won silver for best new product launch/re-launch or multi-product promotion, and gold for best integrated campaign led by promotion and activation.

Senior Lecturer on MA Creative Advertising Rob Kitchen said: “This is an astounding effort for two young people who’ve been in the business less than three years. We’re very proud of them.”
